The Shiden Kai was a Japanese Navy fighter plane that was active during World War II and the Pacific War.

The Shiden made before the Shiden Kai had the wings attached to the center of the fuselage (called a mid-wing configuration), which caused poor visibility and trouble with the legs attached to the wings being too long. This prompted the fuselage to be redesigned and the wings placed under the fuselage (called a low-wing configuration). The aircraft with this improved design is called the Shiden Kai.

The Shiden Kai was a much more powerful aircraft than the Shiden. The Shiden Kai was deployed primarily to the 343rd Air Group at Matsuyama Air Base in Shikoku, and was used to defend the airspace of western Japan, mainly in the naval ports of Hiroshima and Kure.
